Dorchester Choral Society is an amateur community choir specialising in all types of classical music. If you are interested in joining us please contact Christine Pfaff on 01305 852977.
Try us out by singing with us for a few rehearsals. If full membership is then desired, a short 1:1 session with our Director of Music is arranged.
Yes, everyone needs to be able to read music at least to a basic level.
First and foremost, singing in a large, welcoming, enthusiastic and sociable choir, and working under the guidance and leadership of an excellent and experienced conductor.
Then, joining us in singing a wide range of music, including classic Requiems and Masses, but much, much more ...
Rehearsals are held in the United Church, Dorchester on Monday evenings from 7.30 to 9.15 p.m. Choir members are asked not to miss more than three rehearsals in any concert period. Those who need to take more time out for work, health or holiday reasons are asked to discuss this with the Director of Music. Choir members are expected to participate in all concerts unless there is a really good reason.
Music is borrowed from the library unless you wish to buy it yourself. Black folders are used for concerts
Ladies wear long black for all concerts. Men wear black shirts and trousers and no tie.
An annual subscription is payable by all members to cover the running costs of the choir. It is currently £150 but is reviewed annually. Concessions are available for students and others - please ask.
A committee made up of members manages the detailed work of the choir, including social occasions, and all members are asked to support us in various ways if they can.
The Annual General Meeting is held in the autumn.
