Dorchester Choral Society

Venues

Our rehearsals and concerts generally take place in Dorchester and the surrounding villages but we have also performed in the wonderful surroundings of Milton Abbey as well as further afield in France and Germany.

Our Venues

Borough Gardens

Borough Gardens is in the centre of Dorchester and provides a natural amphitheatre for outdoor performance, gathered around its historic bandstand

Charlton Down Village Hall

Charlton Down Village Hall was originally the Old Ballroom for the Herrison Estate. It is a large, light and airy room which has been completely modernized, holding upwards of 300 audience and has excellent acoustics.

St Mary the Virgin Church

St Mary the Virgin Church is the newest of the three Anglican churches in Dorchester, built between 1910-1912 in the 14th century decorated style by the architect Charles Ponting. It is situated in Edward Road on the western side of the town in an area called Victoria Park. It is very near Dorchester West station and the County Hospital.

On entering this beautiful building one feels immersed in a deep sense of spirituality and prayerfulness captured in its very fabric through almost ten decades of worship.

Dorchester Choral Society feels this church is their "home" for the majority of their concerts and enjoys a thriving relationship with all those who make it possible for us to do that.

United Church, Dorchester

The United Church is where we normally rehearse.  But its central location - in the heart of Dorchester's pedestrian shopping area, with parking and cafes nearby - makes it ideal for events such as our annual "Come and Sing" days. The level access from the street enables us to run our relaxed concerts there as well.

Wimborne Minster

Wimborne Minster is a beautiful landmark church at the centre of the historic town of Wimborne.  The Minster dates back to the twelfth century and is dedicated to St Cuthburga.
